Well That’s Settled… Another Board Game to Become Movie

Settlers of Catan Game Film Deal

Nothing against the game. I haven’t played it yet. I’ve been WANTING to, but haven’t been able to get game, friends and enough booze together to make that happen yet.

Soon however.

So, like I said this is nothing against the game. A lot of gamer buddies say it’s a ton of fun. This I do not dispute.

However a MOVIE? Or even harder still…a TV SHOW? I think that may be a bridge too far. Movies based on games have been awful to say the least.

Battleship

Ouija Board

Clue

Granted now, the result the other way is often just as bad. Good movies and TV shows usually make for some AWFUL games. It’s more about marketing than playability.

Where they aren’t disasters, movie-to-game adaptations are usually just names slapped on an existing game… like Star Wars Monopoly… or Harry Potter Monopoly… or Mario Brothers Monopoly.

My point is that I don’t hold up high hopes for Settlers of Catan. At best it’ll have nothing to do with the actual game and has nothing to do with the search for wood.

This is probably my favorite board game

I have little hope for this movie. There’s nothing here to base a story off of aside from a location and a very basic economical system. The only character is a robber who wandered out from the dessert to sometimes halt resource production.

This movie deal is just taking a popular game name and running with whatever the writing team make-up along the way. The movie won’t be based on this game. There’s no basis to be had. They’re just relying on the popularity of its name.
