95% of New York Gun Owners Refuse to Register Their “Assault Weapons” Under New Law

Since New York’s SAFE Act gun control law went into effect in January 2013, a total of 23,847 people have applied to register their newly defined assault-style weapons with the State Police.

Those individuals have registered a total of 44,485 weapons.

The statistics, hidden from the public for more than a year by state officials, were given to Rochester-area lawyer Paloma Capanna on Monday in response to a lawsuit she filed on behalf of radio host Bill Robinson.

Not coincidentally, the two issues that caused the American Revolution were Taxes and Gun Control.

What are the two biggest gripes of New Yorkers?

Taxes and Gun Control.

The two are increasingly tied together, separating the state into two “classes” of people.

While there is some overlap, the ones paying taxes tend to be the ones owning guns. They are in large part Conservative.

The ones not paying taxes tend to vote Democrat and be for gun control.

It also splits along geography. The countryside is 90% Conservative/pro-gun/taxpayers. The cities tend to be 90% the opposite.

There are fewer more starkly different groups in our country today.

Now the Governor has a choice on what to do.

Does he IGNORE the fact that 95% of the people just ignored his blatantly unconstitutional law?

Or does he double down and try to punish those citizens-turned-criminals?

I really dunno on this one. On the one hand it would be SMART to ignore it and try to avoid a confrontation. On the other hand this governor has shown he has VERY thin skin and cannot stand anyone standing up to him. In fact that’s what most of the pending charges against him involve (witness tampering, corruption, intimidation, etc)

The few times this new law has been applied it’s been overturned on the local level or outright ignored in the gun-owner controlled counties. Many Sheriffs have said their constituents don’t want it and they won’t enforce the bad law.

Unlike police chiefs (the Sheriffs’ Association points out), Sheriffs are VOTED into office. Police chiefs are appointed by cronyist politicians. So, Sheriffs are dependent on representing their citizens to get re-elected. Police chiefs of cities (and of the State Police) are appointed and keep their jobs only by agreeing to everything the politicians say.

The stage is being set here. Not sure how this one is gonna play out. Already the governor has set up a “tip line” so that “snitches” can rat out neighbors with unregistered guns for up to $500 apiece. I know of no takers on that cash, but it’s out there all the same.

Maybe a perfect storm is coming. It’s not just about guns. It’s about guns and high unemployment. When you have your rights AND your income taken away by the State… what is a citizen to do to defend their families?

Forming a new state and leaving New York City behind is looking better and better.

They have passed legislation mandating trigger locks or gun safes etc. in your home when guns are not in use. Negating your self defense. Hopefully NY State Senate will not pass this law, making law abiding citizens criminal again.

I would imagine then that your car keys must be locked in a safe when not in use so that no one can break in and steal them, or heaven forbids the kids find them and start driving the car around.
