Duke University Cancels Special Muslim Prayer Plan for Muslims

Let’s be clear about this before the media goes nuts….again.

At no point were the Muslims in danger of NOT being allowed to pray.

They have been doing so for years in the chapel.

What was fought and cancelled was a SPECIAL addition JUST for Muslims being broadcast from the loudspeakers across campus.

This would have been akin to loudspeakers broadcasting a Catholic Mass across the whole campus. THAT would have been fought too, even more vehemently I’m guessing. At one point there were plans to stop ringing the bells at regular times as “annoying and imposing on the non-religious students’ freedom of speech.”

So, going beyond just ringing the bell, this plan would have caused ritual prayers to go out over loudspeakers instead.

Yet this was only contemplated because the students were Muslim.

THAT is what I had an issue with.

SPECIAL privileges.

The claims were made that this would improve the situation by making the Muslim students feel better and “increasing awareness of our local Muslim community.”

No…. throwing it in peoples’ faces and demanding special rights… after violent attacks to demand JUST those special rights in France… is the exact OPPOSITE of what you want to do in order to foster unity and mutual respect.
