Go Gay or Go Away?

Writer who called for a new “anti gay” Confederacy is fired by newspaper

And he wants to call it “United States States of Reagan.”

OK, to be fair the guy had more to it than just “no gays.” It is about “traditional values” Im sure in hus mind. This just happens to be the one people hate the most.

He is probably also just trying to sell books. Its the literary equivalent to Lady Gaga parading around in her meat dress.

It is a big publicity stunt to get people to buy his book. Granted there is a kernel of truth to his rantings. I would like a country that had no Lady Gaga. I dunno if she is gay or not I just think she’s a horrible singer. Almost as bad as Taylor Swift’s whiny, angsty faux feminist keening.

But, I get it. This is America. People are free to do their own thing and like whatever awful music they like.

They are allowed to do dumb things like smoke and unprotected or gay sex. NOT healthy but also not my business. Just don’t make me pay for your bad decisions and well get along fine.

I don’t have an issue with this because the guy is “anti gay” personally. I just don’t think you can impose values from above, morally or immorally.

For the same reason I don’t agree withdemanding people be “pro gay” or that those bakers should be court ordered to make a damn gay wedding cake. That “solution” is worse than the problem. Left alone the couple hosting weddings had no problem with day people being married anywhere else, just not in their home. Telling them or the bakery in California they MUST support gay marriage is actual intimidation and threats of force. That goes way beyond a personal opinion.

I dont think this gut will get many books sold. I could be wrong but most Conservatives arent big on secession and fascism. I know that isnt what the media tells you, but here in the sticks we really are a “live and let live” kinda people.

I’d say they were Libertarian but I’d get punched in the face a lot. “I ain’t one o them Liberals like Hullary and Barack Osama!” As you can see there is some confusion over what political terms mean.

More power to ya Mr MacKinnon. I kinda do wish you would find a place to go with your friends where  “seldom is heard, a liberal word, and nothing about it is gay.” 

I just want would prefer if it isn’t in the United States and you didn’t call it Reagan. Other that, do what ya want. President Reagan wasnt even very “anti gay” despite what the community tried to smear against him. And I cant support fascism on either side of the aisle.

I don’t recall any Founding Fathers saying “KEEP THEM GAYS OUT.” I do recall:

“I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” (Patrick Henry)

and

“If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what is it to me?” (Thomas Jefferson)

Mr. MacKinnon, might I humbly suggest following the example of the unhappy freed slaves in Liberia? Upset with slavery in America they decided to go back to Africa and found an “African America.”

Granted West Africa is a bit full of Ebola right now but I’m sure land is cheap! Or there are plenty of other islands and bits of unclaimed land out there. The point is that if really want to go, no one is going to stop you. 

Those of us who want to work within the system to make society better will continue to do do through conversation and changing minds, not running away.

After all, fleeing to Liberia didn’t end slavery. The Civil War did. That’s generally how secession movements end. The powers in charge really font like when you make off with half their land and people.
