Pope Francis Leads Priestly Ordinations

While the earnings of a minority are growing exponentially, so too is the gap separating the majority from the prosperity enjoyed by those happy few. This imbalance is the result of ideologies which defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation. Consequently, they reject the right of states, charged with vigilance for the common good, to exercise any form of control. A new tyranny is thus born, invisible and often virtual, which unilaterally and relentlessly imposes its own laws and rules.” – Pope Francis

Did I miss an update to the Bible somewhere?

Did they take out the part where the Church stays out of the business of the State and vice versa? What happened to that whole “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s; render unto God that which is God’s?” Did that get edited out?

When did Capitalism become so EVIL that even ATHEISTS are quoting the Pope? Are they that desperate? They normally wouldn’t spit on him if he were on fire but when he starts speaking about Statism and big government they start worship at his feet.

Or is it that they just recognize a fellow “true believer?” What the Communists used to call a “Fellow Traveller.” What if this Pope isn’t so much Catholic as a worshipper of Big Government?

It really isn’t a LOGICAL argument after all. Who runs big governments? Human beings. Who runs big corporations? Human beings.

So… why is one set of flawed human beings to be trusted implicitly and the other to be despised utterly? If anything, governments have a LOT more power at their disposal. It wasn’t IBM or Wal Mart that exterminated the Indians, passed Jim Crow laws or put Japanese-Americans in concentration camps.

Even then, there’s the larger issue. Why so much hate towards the successful? Why shouldn’t those who are wealthy be happy? In fact, why aren’t more poor people happy too?

Why is there so much class warfare and wealth envy out there? I don’t make much but have never seen the reason for all the hate of people who do. You’re going to blame them for making something of their life? Doesn’t that sound a bit petty?

What is this, high school?

“Look at her, she’s all being pretty wearing makeup!”

“What, he thinks he’s SMART now, doing so good on tests?”

“That Dave is such an ASSHOLE because he got a car!”

More people are living more productive and happier lives than EVER before. This is a GREAT time to be alive…. would be if people realized what they had anyway.

What do you think would be the reaction of even an American 100 years ago if he could see the great wealth even the “poor” have in this country? How many grandparents simply shake their heads and wonder at all that we take for granted they couldn’t have IMAGINED decades ago.

Food to eat, cable TV, free cell phones, free education, nearly limitless selection in the stores, essentially free health care, very low crime rates, THE INTERNET!

Yet instead of appreciating it, we spit on it and demand MORE and villify anyone else who manages to earn more. We make up crimes when none conveniently exist. The most feared phrase I can think of is “There should be a law against that.”

THINK about that for a minute before you spout off at the mouth. Do you REALLY want a law? Or are you just being spiteful and vengeful?

People call it “Justice” or “Social Justice” but it’s really not. Justice is impartial. It shows no emotion or favor.

When you add HATE to a desire for what you think is Justice, it becomes VENGEANCE. Are you for Justice, or Vengeance? Justice is an objective punishment for a crime. Vengeance is a personal punishment for a PERCEIVED WRONG.

Wrongs are often not crimes. They often aren’t even true. Think about the word itself.

“Wrong” isn’t just a slight, offense or unfair act. It also means INCORRECT. It’s there in the definition!

Consider that the next time you find yourself criticizing someone for being successful. Are they intentionally harming anyone? Are they committing a crime?

Are they simply doing something you don’t like? Are they more successful than you are? Are you jealous of them? Do they make you FEEL BAD?

Often it is you giving them the power. You are paying those sports stars salaries. You are buying those tabloids that make celebrities famous. You are re-electing those corrupt politicians.

Conversely, you’re not STOPPING them in your own life. You aren’t donating to a cause you SAY you believe in. You don’t bother to vote, ensuring that corrupt politician gets elected. You bitch about how “no one is shopping at the little local stores anymore” as you drive past them to go to Wal Mart.

Look at YOURSELF before you start whining about other people. If you’re already doing this you’ll be nodding your head by now. If you’re offended, chances are it’s striking true and you are being the hypocrite you accuse others of being.

Sure, I fuck up. I don’t always make the right choices. The difference is I don’t blame OTHER people for my failures. I don’t demand the government stop other people from succeeding so I feel better.

  1. Patrick says:

The Catholic Church owns hundreds of millions of dollars in artwork. Why don’t they sell some and give it to the poor? Practice what you preach?
